julie

Wow....you guys are great! Thank you for joining me in my sale...and signing my blog...I'm going to allow some time for more entries so if you didn't get a chance yesterday I'll keep that going till this evening around 5:00. That way Julie, my 7 year old, will be home, hopefully all of her home work completed and we can draw a name. Are you the lucky winner????

Yesterday was a fun day for us. We needed to get out! I think cabin fever is setting in. Since my sister had the day off, we met with our girls, had lunch and went looking for some bargains. Kay's been working so hard so it was the perfect time to catch up. But did we get to catch up during our lunch...Noooooo.... We had four preteen age girls mocking everything we did. It all started with the Happy Meals Spiderwick gadget which I purchased for Lorelei, Julie & Jesse. As they passed around the little spy glass, Kay & I couldn't see the little shapes that were suppose to be coming off of one of the characters. I mean they stuck with this over fifteen minutes laughing at us. Well, finally someone checked the glass we were looking through and said "this ones not working".

Finally after everyone finished lunch, we thought we would let the little ones play in playland. We could talk and let the older girls visit. Did that happen? NOOOOOOO! It was such a simple plan but the girls insisted on climbing the tubes! Here they stoodright in the middle of the equipment making every type of excuse to get up those tubes. I was worried about them getting stuck and what the other parents would think. Here we are trying to sit, enjoy our time and having to argue with these girls. I tell them it's against the rules...so, one of the girls goes off and asked the manger what does she say....they can climb it. So now the battle continues as they have the official go ahead. While this is going on, they are standing in front of a slide. This little one year old comes down the slide and her mother is trying to get to her. I'm likegirls get out of there! For the next thirty minutes we get looks and comments from the girls....so Kay decides to treat them to some ice cream. At this time I just needed some coffee!!! We left playland to order their surprise. As we are standing in line waiting for them to hand us the ice creams we turn around. What do we see??? Four over sized pre-teen girls up in the tubes. I couldn't believe my eyes.....they were out of control! Needless to say they got there ice cream and left us alone.....

Well, then I see Jesse being surrounded by these three little boys. They are being totally silly running around screaming in each others faces. It was kinda of funny....till Jesse had enough. He gave one of the boys a push, then a side kick...like a little karate move (that he learned from his brothers!). The little boy was fine, like nothing happened but I couldn't stand for that behavior. So I pull him aside to let him know this is not how we handle things....I look over at Kay she's laughing....I give her that look like "What?????" she says "at least he'll be able to defend himself in school." Oh...I don't even want to think about it!

What a difference it is having my first three children! Life was so much easier. They were always a pleasure to take out...well, until we home schooled. But that' another story! You would think that Kay and I had enough! Oh, nooooo....we take them all shopping! I should have known better than to take two preteen girls, two seven year old girls and Jesse into any store! I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

The first thirty minutes wasn't too bad. I took the little ones looking for shoes. Kay went off into the coats section and the "older" girls off to look at jeans. After we met up again, I asked the older girls to watch the younger ones so I could look through the home decor with Kay. And we handed out cell phones. So as we are enjoying a little talk, a little bit of sharing...finally hidden at one end of the store. My cell rings....Mom....Jesse, Julie and Lorelei are running away from us...I'm like where are you....over by the toys....you mean all the way on the other side of the store! Well, that was it about five minutes of catching up for us! And guess what?! When I get there, they are all together like nothing happened. So I realize what's going on here...our girls have hit the age.... Where it's fun to upset mom. It's fun to make fun of her. It's fun to see her going nuts and the four of them are just feeding each other with delight!

Ok....you girls give us fifteen more minutes...let us do some SHOPPING and we will take the little ones. If anyone MESSES UP, I'm not buying you anything. It worked! OK...so not it is check out time. Jennifer presented me her idea of a bathing suit for this year. Ummm...I'm not even thinking of bathing suits! It's 30 degrees outside!!! And WHY would she even think that I would buy such a suit?!!!! Let me just tell youJennifer is a bright girl, exceptionally bright however, it's either her way or the highway!!! So, here we are waiting in a long line, going back and forth with the same argument over a bathing suit! I finally just handed the itty-bitty thing over to my niece and said get rid of it! Kay once again is standing their giving me a look...."I've got the same argument but we don't start till the weather warms up." My look back at her......rolling eyes with a big snicker!

Well that was it our time had run out. We shared big hugs said our good byes...and took off for our homes. I guess lessoned learned, at least for me. When Kay and I want to catch up, we need to stick to the phone....or, better yet, sneak out to lunch ALONE!

You know what the funny thing is...this morning as I'm driving the girls to the bus stop listening to my morning show, which is sharing news on a new study..... St. Louis is #3 on the list of most stressful place to live...HMMMMM I wonder why?

Julie's not the only one who was playing with my die-cuts. Kristen wanted to make her girlfriend at school a locker posters for her birthday. When Katie saw what we were up to she had to join in and she created this beautiful layout which she bought a frame for and gave to her sweetheart on Valentines day.

You have no idea what a surprise it is for me to open my email and find so many wonderful layouts or cards created with my files. Some of them are presented to me with in days of giving out files to be cut by my cutters. While others are presented from some of the customers.

It brings me great joy to share these wonderful images with you.....

Our GRAND PRIZE WINNER from the ATC challenge

Doreen & her son Ethan

I was touched by the story of how this card developed and I believe others were too!
Doreen wanted to create an ATC for the challenge. When Ethan found out her plan he stepped in and took over the creation of the card, creating the lettering. Doreen is such a patient mother and an inspiration to us all!

Thank you Ethan & Doreen for submitting and winning such an amazing ATC!

Shelly submitted this adorable card for the ATC challenge....it is so darn cute! I love her colors and the little details that she adds to her creations. But most of all her choice in the picture she used of her daughter...is that not a face!

Jessica submitted her ATC creation with this adorable card. Don't you just love all the stitching that she added to the edges!
Another ATC from Shelly... and what a cutie pie her little boy is! I love her idea of birthday ATC's.

Jessica surprised me with creating a baby diaper card...I just love the pastel colors that she used on this card.... Thank you Jessica!

Shelly showed us you don't have to be a grown man to play with tools! I love the bright colors that bring out her sons tools and his shirt. He's so lucky to have a mom making these memories for him to enjoy. Thank you Shelly!

Submitted by Helena....now these guys are really hard at work....a fantastic layout with great pictures and color! Thank you Helena

And Nikki surprised me with her version of my luv bug card....valentines doesn't always have to be red, pinks and blacks....thank you Nikki

Sussann shared this New Years layout with me...and even caught the first kiss of the new year. I just love the gold shimmery paper that she used along with the swirls on the clock face..... Thank you Sussann!

Another wonderful gift from Sussann...notice the detail on her stitching, it really adds such a special touch to this card. Sussann used my I love U card over background paper with love words and added my clippies to keep the sides closed....

and she stamped the inside of the card... very nice!
Sussann will receive $5.00 worth of files that she is picking out for sharing her card with me.

This is the life! Shared by Doreen...it's a wonderful layout being very simple yet catching the life of "Dante"....Thank you Doreen for sharing all of your wonderful work!

A pleasant surprise.....

My breath was taken away when I opened my email to find this adorable layout using my Christmas Presents as embellishments...thank you Doreen for sharing your talent with us and I'm sure all of you will agree that this is an inspiring page!

Happy Seventh Birthday-

You have to agree it's a great layout! Her pictures are crisp and clear and she catches the exciting moment of opening presents. Not to mention how gorgeous her seven year old son is with that terrific smile! Gosh if we could only just keep them at seven wouldn't that be wonderful? Such an innocent age.

Doreen's choice in colors are amazing and the pattern paper perfect they look so boyish and birthday all in one.

Enlarging one of the presents and making it a journaling block is such a good idea...that's why I just love sharing.....now we have another element from one file...that's just plan smart!

And here is how Doreen made this layout:

{I changed the size of one of the presents and made it into a journaling box. One bow is covered in glitter, another is with varnish and pearl-ex pigment. The presents are chalked and some have glitter glue as accents. I also put some pigment into glue and painted around the title. The photo corners are chipboard (store bought) and covered in micro beads.}

I just wish we could see the work from her techniques they sound stunning!
Again thank you Doreen which she will receive her choice of file in equal value to the Christmas Presents file!

Looking for some help.....

First of all I must say a big THANK YOU to all those who purchased my files during the sale on Monday, well and any time you purchase my files! But Monday you guys blew me away with how many purchases where made! It really got me thinking!

So....

I've decided to put out a call...I really need some help!

I need some cutters!

I am looking for a couple of wonderful people to cut my files.

NOW.... that's not all...after cutting you would need to scan a really good picture of the cut file(s) and email them to me.

If you are interested in getting the first peeks at my files and of course you will get to keep the files for your work then email me by clicking the link on my blog, see it is on the left.....and tell me why I should choose you to cut my files. Send me three scanned cut files of your choice to show me what you can do...by the end of this week I will chose my cutters.

No announcement will be made so do your best if you want the position!

I think this may free me up some so I can blog and share files much more often then I get a chance to. I have to say I've been feeling really guilty about neglecting these but I also have to realize I just can't do it all!

Also...I will be putting out a call for some more CDT's, that's Creative Design Team members...I've got something great up my sleeve for this just have to work out the details so with in the next two weeks I'll be putting out that call too! So you might just start thinking about what to submit! I'll give you a little hint....I will be mailing packages....hmmm

Have a great weekend!

The Challange...it's on!

Welcome to our first ATC Challenge!

Chris Durnan, Jan Bryson & myself have come together to host this exciting challenge for you!
Let me just tell you I enjoyed this simple little challenge... it was easy to do. And I just love the concept! To create a piece of Art that represents who we are and to share these little cards as signatures it's AWESOME. I hope that you can take some time to read up on these powerful little cards. If you let your imagination go you can come up with all sorts of ideas for these ...so make sure you check out the links below!

The rules are pretty simple and the prizes are great so roll up your sleeves put on your thinking caps follow a few simple rules and let's see what you can come up with!

1. Your finished ATC card must be the standard ATC card size of 2.5"x3.5" (can be either portrait or landscape). The card can unfold or have interactive elements that come out from the card, but when "at rest" or closed it must be the standard size.
2. Your ATC card must contain at least one file from one of our hosting designers: Jan Bryson (Sam & Hailey Designs), Chris Durnan (Visual Designs by Chris), and/or Carrie Schwartz (Carrie's Creations). The one file you use from the hosts cannot include the free files being given away on our blogs tomorrow.
3. That's it! Anything else goes! The more unique materials and techniques you use, the more votes you will get!
4. Post your work in the Paperthreads Gallery on February 2nd or 3rd.
5. Voting will be conducted on February 4th and 5th.

Don't let the fact that you've never made and ATC stop you from joining the challenge. After all, I'd never made a single one until last week! It was so fun that I'm already planning more! Here are some great sites to get you going:
Art in your pocket: ATCs
How to make Artist Trading Cards: Basics and Backgrounds
How to make Artist Trading Cards: Themes, Focal Points and Embellishments
How to make Artist Trading Cards: Finishing, Storage and Display

Now every card has to have an official ATC label and I've created some for you to print out (just click on the link and download the jpg...you can print them and cut them with some scissors or if you know what you are doing... by using Jan's patterns for each card you can place the image of the cards into your file and print and cut...I tried to do it but just couldn't work through it fast enough...well that's with everything else we have planned! And I'm not giving any hints...so don't try to ask...anyway you have enough to think about tonight!

We hope to see your ATC cards in the gallery!

and i just love this one! Susie used my "Tools" file to create this awesome layout. I just can't get over her idea of hanging the tools on a peg board....it's so creative!
